Frequently Asked Questions
Website costs can vary depending on what the goals of your website are. So for example, an e-commerce website is more expensive than a small business (brochure style) website. You must also take into consideration supporting elements like imagery, video, copywriting and SEO goals. While some projects may fall into a budget of under $800 the average price for a business website can vary between $1200 - $2500. Again, this can vary but hopefully gives you a rough idea of costs for a properly designed and configured website that will help you be found in search.
For small businesses, we do not charge an initial consultation cost. This is simply to ensure that we are the right fit for your business and can meet expectations. It also allows us to provide an accurate quote. For larger, more complex projects that may require additional preliminary meetings with multiple decision makers, our standard consultation fee applies ($150 p/h). From there, we are in a position to provide an accurate quote.
A typical small business website can take on average 20 - 25 hours to design and develop, taking into consideration not only design time, but consultations, revisions, content reviews and other integrations that may be required. Other factors include testing on multiple mobile devices and research activities (eg for organic SEO) to give your website the best chance to be found online. E-Commerce website can take significantly more time depending on the number of products, categories and other integrations that may be required.
A sign of a great design company is one that asks plenty of questions about your website goals. Anyone can publish a website - but they have no value if they haven't been designed with your goals and target audience in mind. At a surface level, you should also ask to see previous work, look for testimonials and ask about their capacity to provide ongoing support after the site has been completed. When it comes to pricing, make sure you have a clear understanding about the difference between initial development costs, ongoing costs and any hourly rate costs for variations in project scope. It's common to think that your website developer will be there to provide 'quick updates' at no cost. This is not true. Typically all work will be billable unless you have a clear agreement or a monthly retainer.
